Volvo XC40
Volvo XC40 — spec data and generation history.

Volvo's small-SUV reset, launched 2017 on the brand-new CMA platform shared with the Polestar 2. Won European Car of the Year in 2018 and gave the cabin design a real personality after years of Volvo restraint — those vertical air vents and orange carpet on launch cars stuck. Powertrain story is layered: started with petrol T3/T4/T5 and a diesel D3/D4, mild-hybrid B3/B4 from 2020, plug-in T5 Recharge, then the full-electric P8 Recharge in 2020. The pure electric XC40 was renamed EX40 in 2024 — same car, new branding to align with the EX-series EVs. Used market favours late mild-hybrid B3/B4s — efficient in town and avoid the early infotainment quirks.
