Mercedes-Benz Metris Single Generation (2016-2023)
US badge for global V-Class. Discontinued 2023. The mid-size van Mercedes won't replace.
Single generation across the US run, on Mercedes' W447 platform. Built at Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain alongside global V-Class / Vito. Engine: 2.0L turbo I4 (M274) producing 208 hp / 258 lb-ft, paired with 7-speed automatic. Rear-wheel-drive only in the US — Mercedes never offered the AWD version of the Vito in North America. Two body styles: Cargo Van (panel van for commercial use, two front seats, sealed cargo area, 186 cu ft of cargo space) and Passenger Van (8 seats in 2/3/3 layout). Two wheelbases (135-inch and 126-inch in early years; 135-inch only later). Trims: Worker (decontented commercial fleet trim, vinyl seats, fewer features), and standard trim. Optional features included: 7-inch touchscreen with COMAND, blind-spot assist, Active Brake Assist, Parking Package with 360 camera, Crosswind Assist (auto correction in side-wind gusts). Towing capacity 5,000 lb. Strong reputation in commercial fleets — taxi services, hotel shuttles, contractors valued the European-derived design and Mercedes engineering for the segment. Discontinued after 2023 model year in the US; final cars sold through dealer inventory into 2024. Mercedes' new VAN.EA platform (launched 2026 globally) replaces V-Class / Vito with electric-led architecture (VLE / VLS naming), but the US is not getting the new model — leaves a gap in the lineup. Used Metris vans now command strong prices among commercial buyers as the mid-size segment is unfilled.
