Single generation since 2020 on MFA2 platform. Built at Mercedes' Aguascalientes, Mexico plant alongside CLA / GLA. Two trims: GLB 250 (2.0L turbo I4, 221 hp / 258 lb-ft) and AMG GLB 35 (2.0L turbo I4, 302 hp / 295 lb-ft, AWD-only). Both use the 8-speed DCT. FWD or 4MATIC AWD on GLB 250; AWD-only on AMG. Distinctive boxy upright styling — Mercedes' brief was 'baby G-Wagen' and the proportions deliver that despite being on FWD-based architecture. Optional 7-seat layout with small third row — unique in the entry-luxury crossover space. 2024 facelift refreshed the grille, lights, and brought MBUX 2nd-gen with bigger 10.25-inch displays standard. AMG variant gets AMG-specific dampers, brakes, exhaust, AMG Performance steering wheel, AMG-tuned 4MATIC+. Cabin tech: MBUX with 'Hey Mercedes', wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, ambient lighting (64 colors), augmented reality navigation. Driving Assistance package optional with adaptive cruise + lane-keeping. Currently the only sub-luxury crossover in the segment offering 3-row capability — Audi Q5 Sportback, BMW X1, XC60 are all 5-seat-only.
