Lexus GS All Four Generations (1993-2020)
Four gens of Lexus mid-size sport sedan. RWD, V6/V8/Hybrid range. GS F is the cult halo.
Four generations across the run. 1st gen S140 (1993-1997): Italdesign-styled, 2JZ-GE 3.0L inline-six (220 hp), four-speed auto, RWD. 2nd gen S160 (1998-2005): in-house redesign, GS 300 (220 hp 2JZ-GE I6) and GS 400 (300 hp 1UZ-FE 4.0L V8) — first GS V8 — then GS 430 from 2001 (300 hp 3UZ-FE 4.3L V8). Five-speed auto. 3rd gen S190 (2006-2011): all-new platform, GS 300 (245 hp) / GS 350 (303 hp from 2007), GS 430 (290 hp) replaced by GS 460 (342 hp 1UR-FSE 4.6L V8) for 2008+, plus GS 450h hybrid launched 2007 (339 hp combined) — Lexus's first hybrid sedan, with eight-speed auto on V8 (2008+) and CVT on hybrid. AWD optional from 3rd gen. 4th gen S210 (2013-2020): GS 350 (306 hp 2GR-FSE V6), GS 450h hybrid (338 hp combined), GS 200t / 300 (241 hp 2.0L 8AR-FTS turbo I4 from 2016), and the GS F halo (5.0L 2UR-GSE V8, 467 hp / 389 lb-ft, 4.5 sec 0-60, 168 mph top speed) from 2016-2020. F Sport variants from 4th gen mid-cycle. Eight-speed auto on V6/V8, CVT on hybrid. Production at Toyota Tahara plant. Discontinued after 2020 model year — replaced by ES in Europe. Total US GS sales modest by ES standards but the GS F has cult collector appeal already underway.
