The GS was Lexus's mid-size luxury sport sedan from 1993 to 2020 across four generations. Toyota Crown / Aristo platform underpinnings (RWD/AWD). 1st gen (1993-1997, S140): Italdesign Giugiaro-styled, inline-six only — the GS 300 with 3.0L 2JZ-GE I6 (220 hp). Modest US sales (~19,000 peak in 1993). 2nd gen (1998-2005, S160): in-house redesign, GS 300 (3.0L 2JZ-GE I6, 220 hp) and GS 400 / GS 430 (4.0/4.3L 1UZ/3UZ V8, 300/300 hp) — first US-market GS V8. 3rd gen (2006-2011, S190): GS 300/350 V6 (245-303 hp), GS 430/460 V8 (290/342 hp), and the GS 450h hybrid (339 hp combined) launched 2007 — Lexus's first hybrid sedan. 4th gen (2013-2020, S210): 3.5L 2GR-FSE V6 (306 hp) on GS 350, GS 450h hybrid (338 hp combined), 2.0L turbo I4 (241 hp) added 2016 as GS 200t/300, and the GS F (5.0L 2UR-GSE V8, 467 hp) the high-performance halo from 2016-2020. Discontinued for US 2020 model year as Lexus pivoted to SUVs and the ES took over the GS's role in Europe. Now firmly cult collector territory; GS F examples appreciate strongly, GS 400/430 manuals (very rare) are the obscure pick.
