Single generation since 2022 model year. Built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance CMF-CD platform shared with QX50, Nissan Rogue, Nissan Pathfinder, Nissan Murano (current gen), and Renault Koleos (Europe). Built at COMPAS — Cooperation Manufacturing Plant Aguascalientes, S.A. de C.V. — a joint Nissan-Daimler venture (originally) plant in Mexico, now primarily Nissan-managed. The QX55 is Infiniti's response to BMW X4 / Mercedes GLC Coupe — the coupe-styled fastback variant of the standard QX50 SUV. Visually distinctive fastback roof drop and revised tail compared to QX50, but otherwise shares wheelbase, drivetrain, cabin architecture. Single powertrain: 2.0L Variable-Compression VC-Turbo I4 (KR20DDET, 268 hp / 280 lb-ft) — Infiniti's signature engine technology that mechanically adjusts piston stroke length to switch between 8:1 compression ratio (high-power, boost-friendly) and 14:1 compression ratio (high-efficiency, naturally-aspirated-style). The VC-Turbo is a unique technology in mass production — Infiniti is the only US-market manufacturer offering variable-compression. Xtronic CVT (Infiniti's branded continuously-variable transmission), AWD standard across all trims. 0-60 in approximately 6.5 sec. EPA 25 mpg combined. Trims: Pure (~$48k base, cloth, 17-inch alloys), Luxe (mid — leather, 19-inch wheels), Essential (volume — adaptive cruise, premium audio), Sensory (~$54k near-top — Bose 16-speaker, ventilated front seats, semi-aniline leather), Autograph (~$58k top — quilted leather, ambient lighting, additional ADAS). Cabin: 8-inch upper touchscreen + 7-inch lower touchscreen (dual-display layout — distinctive but tactile-control-heavy), wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, available Bose 16-speaker premium audio (Sensory and Autograph trims). Standard ADAS: ProPilot Assist with adaptive cruise, lane keep, and limited hands-on highway driving (Infiniti's L2 system shared with Nissan). Sales have been modest since launch — coupe-SUV body styles have struggled in the US market in this size class, with QX55 being further hurt by the VC-Turbo engine's reliability concerns (the QX50 with the same engine has had documented timing chain and turbo issues). The QX55's 'FX successor' positioning has appealed to FX-loyalists but hasn't expanded the buyer base. Discontinuation rumored mid-cycle as Infiniti's product strategy continues to wind down (the brand has been consistently cutting models — Q60 discontinued, Q50 winding down, QX55 probable next).
