GMC Terrain
GMC's compact CUV — Equinox sister with chunkier styling. 3rd gen (2025+) refreshed with bolder face and Google built-in.
The Terrain is GMC's compact crossover — sister to the Chevrolet Equinox with shared platforms but distinct exterior and interior styling. Three generations. 1st gen (2010-2017): launched 2009 as 2010 model year on GM Theta II platform shared with Equinox. 2.4L Ecotec I4 (182 hp), 3.0L V6 (264 hp) optional 2010-2012, then 3.6L V6 (301 hp) optional 2013-2017. 6-speed automatic. FWD or AWD. Terrain Denali trim added 2013 — luxury-styled with chrome-heavy front fascia. Built at CAMI Automotive, Ingersoll, Ontario (also Equinox plant at the time). 2nd gen (2018-2024): complete redesign — smaller, lower, smoother styling. Built at GM San Luis Potosí, Mexico. All-turbo lineup: 1.5L turbo I4 (170 hp / 203 lb-ft) base, 2.0L turbo I4 (252 hp / 260 lb-ft) optional 2018-2020 only, then 1.5T-only after 2020. 9-speed automatic on AWD, 6-speed automatic on FWD. Diesel option (2018-2019): 1.6L turbo-diesel I4 (137 hp), short-lived, discontinued. Terrain AT4 off-road trim added 2021 — body cladding, hill descent control, all-season tires. Denali continued as luxury flagship. 3rd gen (2025-present): redesigned alongside Equinox on GM E2 platform. Bolder, more SUV-styled (less car-like than 2nd gen). Single engine: 1.5L turbo I4 (175 hp / 203 lb-ft) — same as 4th gen Equinox, with 8-speed automatic, FWD or AWD. Google built-in standard mid-trim, 11.3-inch touchscreen + 8-inch driver display. Trims: Elevation (base), AT4 (off-road, body cladding, all-terrain tires, multi-mode AWD), Denali (luxury, 19-inch wheels, leather, head-up display, Bose 8-speaker). Built at GM San Luis Potosí, Mexico for North America. The Terrain Denali has become one of GMC's stronger sellers — buyers attracted to the 'almost-luxury' positioning at compact-CUV prices.
