Single generation since 2019 (originally launched as 'Audi e-tron', renamed to 'Q8 e-tron' for 2024 model year alongside a substantive refresh). Built at Audi Brussels, Belgium. Underlying MLB Evo platform (modified for EV — not Audi's eventual purpose-built PPE platform that the Q6 e-tron uses). Two body styles offered: Q8 e-tron SUV (standard upright SUV body) and Q8 Sportback e-tron (coupe-style fastback variant — about 10% less cargo, sleeker silhouette). Powertrains: Q8 50 e-tron (smaller 95 kWh battery / 89 kWh usable, dual-motor AWD, 335 hp / 414 lb-ft, ~226 mi EPA range), Q8 55 e-tron (larger 114 kWh battery / 106 kWh usable since 2024 refresh, dual-motor AWD, 402 hp / 490 lb-ft combined, ~285 mi EPA range — most popular configuration), and SQ8 e-tron (114 kWh, tri-motor AWD with two motors at the rear axle for torque vectoring, 496 hp / 717 lb-ft combined, 4.5 sec 0-60, ~218 mi range). DC fast-charging up to 170 kW peak, 11 kW AC standard / 22 kW AC optional in some markets. Cabin: standard Audi virtual cockpit + dual-screen MMI (10.1-inch upper + 8.6-inch lower), wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, available Bang & Olufsen 16-speaker premium audio with active noise cancellation. Adaptive air suspension standard, 20- to 22-inch wheel options. Heated/cooled front seats, massage option on Prestige trims. Trims: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige (top non-S), SQ8 e-tron Premium Plus / Prestige. Sportback adds modest premium ($2-3k typical). The Q8 e-tron has been a steady but never spectacular seller — Audi's EV strategy has been criticized for being conservative, and the MLB Evo platform was always a converted-ICE platform rather than purpose-built. Audi has officially signaled the Q8 e-tron will end production by mid-to-late 2025 as the Q6 e-tron (built on the new PPE platform with Porsche, far more advanced 800V architecture) replaces it. Used Q8 e-tron values are softening ahead of the discontinuation. The Brussels plant has been retooling for the Q6 e-tron production transition.
