Acura Vigor
The TL's predecessor. Inline-five engine — Honda's only ever inline-five for the US. Three years, then gone.
The Vigor was a curious Acura that lasted only three years (1992-1994) before being replaced by the TL. Mechanically, its standout feature was Honda's only ever inline-five engine for the US market — a 2.5L SOHC unit making 176 hp at 6,300 rpm, mounted longitudinally for FWD. The TL inherited the same engine for its first generation. Reasonably well-reviewed at the time but never a strong seller; the inline-five didn't catch on with American buyers and Acura abandoned it after the Vigor's run. The Vigor is remembered today mainly as a footnote — the only US-market Honda product with five cylinders, and the platform that became the original TL.
