Acura SLX Sole Generation
Rebadged Isuzu Trooper. Body-on-frame, slow, thirsty. Killed by its own replacement, the MDX.
1996-1997 SLXs used Isuzu's 3.2L 6VD1 V6 (190 hp); 1998-1999 cars upgraded to the 3.5L 6VE1 V6 (215 hp). Body-on-frame chassis, four-speed automatic, Borg-Warner four-wheel drive with low range. Despite the Acura badge, the SLX was mechanically identical to the Isuzu Trooper sold alongside it for less money — and Trooper buyers got the same vehicle without the Acura premium. Honda took the lessons and built the unibody MDX, which crushed the SLX in every dimension. Surviving examples are rare and have typically been used hard. Now interesting only as a curio of Acura history.
