Acura RDX
Acura's compact crossover. First-gen had a turbo four (rare for Honda), then went V6, now back to turbo four. Three generations.
The RDX launched 2007 as Acura's compact luxury crossover, slotting below the MDX. First generation (2007-2012) was unusual for being one of Honda's only turbocharged production engines at the time — a 2.3-litre K23A1 turbo making 240 hp, with SH-AWD and a 5-speed automatic. Reception was mixed; the turbo lag and middling fuel economy disappointed buyers expecting Honda smoothness. Second generation (2013-2018) abandoned turbocharging and SH-AWD for a 3.5-litre V6 (273 hp later 279) with a 6-speed automatic and conventional AWD — a more conservative approach that sold much better. Third generation (2019-present) returned to a turbocharged four-cylinder (2.0-litre VTEC turbo, 272 hp), reintroduced SH-AWD as an option, added a 10-speed automatic, and was extensively redesigned inside and out. Built at East Liberty, Ohio. The third-gen has been Acura's volume leader after the MDX — sales over 370,000 units across the lifetime as of 2020.
