Scion iQ
Toyota iQ-rebadge city car. Tiny, 4-seater, 1.3L 94 hp. Outsold by Smart Fortwo. Curio.
The Scion iQ (2012-2015) was Toyota's American attempt at a microcar, federalised from the global Toyota iQ. Three-door four-passenger ultra-compact city car. 1.3L 1NR-FE I4 (94 hp), CVT only — no manual offered. FWD only. The iQ was the only Scion sold in the US under the same name as its Toyota equivalent in other markets. Length 120 inches (vs Smart Fortwo's 106), nominally seating four though the rear seats are essentially decorative for adults. Standard equipment included A/C, CD audio, ABS, stability control, eleven airbags (a remarkable count for the size). Aimed against the Smart Fortwo — the iQ's primary advantage was the four-seat layout vs Smart's two — but the iQ never achieved meaningful sales, peaking around 9,000 in 2012 and collapsing thereafter. Total US iQ production approximately 16,000 cars across the run, making it among the lowest-volume Scions ever. Discontinued after 2015 model year. Now a true curio collector item — surviving low-mile examples are uncommon.
