Scion iA
Single-year Mazda 2-based sedan. 1.5L 106 hp. Became Toyota Yaris sedan after 1 model year as a Scion.
The Scion iA (2016) was sold for a single model year before the Scion brand closed. Federalised Mazda 2 sedan (DJ-platform) — built at Mazda's plant in Salamanca, Mexico. 1.5L SkyActiv-G I4 (106 hp), six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. FWD only. Four-door subcompact sedan. The iA represented Toyota's late-stage attempt to broaden the Scion lineup with a proper traditional sedan body — and notably was the only Scion not built by Toyota or Subaru. Standard equipment was substantial for the segment: low-speed pre-collision braking, hill-start assist, six airbags, push-button start. The iA was renamed to Toyota Yaris iA for 2017 and continued in production through 2020 as the Toyota Yaris sedan, with no other significant changes. Total 2016 Scion iA sales were modest. Now a true single-year curio — collectors interested in the Scion brand should prioritise iA Scion-badged cars for production rarity, though they remain affordable and the equivalent Toyota Yaris iA examples are functionally identical.
