Oldsmobile Aurora 1st Gen (1995-1999)
Aurora V8 (Northstar-derived 4.0L). FWD luxury sedan. Bold modern styling for Olds.
GM G-body platform shared with Buick Riviera. L47 4.0L DOHC V8 — a destroked version of the Cadillac Northstar 4.6L V8 sharing the same architecture, four valves per cylinder, dual overhead cams, 250 hp at 5,600 rpm and 260 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm. 4T80-E four-speed automatic. FWD only. Magnetic Ride Control optional. Standard equipment included full leather, dual-zone climate, Bose audio, traction control. The Aurora's styling was a deliberate break from traditional Oldsmobile design — flush glass, no chrome accents, modern flowing surfaces. Critical reception was strong; Motor Trend, Car and Driver, and Automobile all praised the design and powertrain at launch. Production at the Lake Orion plant in Michigan. Total first-gen production approximately 145,000 cars across the five-year run.
