Ford Panther body-on-frame platform shared with Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car. InTech 4.6L DOHC modular V8 — same engine architecture used in the Lincoln Mark VIII, Mustang Mach 1, and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator. 302 hp at 5,750 rpm, 318 lb-ft at 4,250 rpm. 4R70W four-speed automatic for 2003, upgraded 4R75W for 2004. RWD only. Limited-slip rear differential, 3.55:1 final drive ratio (shared with Crown Vic Police Interceptor). Aluminum driveshaft. Monochromatic black-on-black exterior was the signature spec — only Black Clearcoat available 2003. For 2004, Mercury added Silver Birch, Dark Blue Pearl, and Dark Toreador Red as additional colors, plus minor interior updates. Unique 18-inch chrome alloys, dual exhaust outlets, lower stance vs Grand Marquis. Cabin: Marauder-specific gauge cluster with 140-mph speedometer and tachometer (vs Grand Marquis' standard cluster), bucket seats with leather/Alcantara inserts, console-mounted shift lever instead of column, Mach Audio. Production at Wixom alongside Town Car and Mark VIII. Total: 7,838 (2003) + 3,214 (2004) = ~11,052. The Marauder was an enthusiast home-run that didn't sell — slow against muscle-car expectations, expensive vs the Crown Vic / Grand Marquis it shared so much with — but is now firmly collector cult.

Used-market budget

$18,000

Driver-grade Black 2003 cars $13-18k. Clean low-mile $20-25k. 2004 rare colors (Silver Birch, Dark Toreador Red) $22-28k+. Documented timing chain service is critical.
