Mid-size Luxury Crossover (3-row)

The CX-90 is Mazda's three-row mid-size luxury crossover SUV — replacing the CX-9 in North America with a substantially upmarket repositioning targeting Acura MDX / Genesis GV80 / Audi Q7 territory. Launched 2023 model year. Built on Mazda's all-new Large Product Group platform (LPG) which features a longitudinal engine layout and rear-biased all-wheel drive system — a significant departure from Mazda's traditional transverse FWD-based architecture, and a clear upmarket positioning. 3.3L e-SkyActiv-G Inline-6 turbo mild-hybrid — Mazda's first inline-six production engine in decades, with M Hybrid Boost 48V mild-hybrid system. Two tunings: CX-90 3.3 Turbo (standard-pressure turbo, 280 hp / 332 lb-ft on regular fuel) and CX-90 3.3 Turbo S (high-pressure turbo, 340 hp / 369 lb-ft on premium, 319 hp on regular). Both use 8-speed automatic with wet clutch in place of conventional torque converter — a significant engineering departure designed to enhance shift response. Mild-hybrid system contributes additional 16.6 hp / 113 lb-ft via integrated starter-generator + 0.33 kWh battery. CX-90 PHEV added 2024 model year: 2.5L SkyActiv-G I4 + electric motor + 17.8 kWh battery (323 hp combined on premium / 319 hp regular, 369 lb-ft, 26-mile EV range, 56 MPGe combined). i-Activ AWD standard across all CX-90s with rear-bias. 5,000 lb towing (ICE), 3,500 lb (PHEV). 6-, 7-, or 8-passenger seating configurations (PHEV is 6-pax only with captain's chairs). Trims (ICE): Select, Preferred, Premium, Premium Sport, Premium Plus, S, S Premium, S Premium Plus. PHEV trims: Preferred, Premium Sport, Premium Plus. Built at Hofu, Japan. Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) chassis tuning to minimize body roll. 12-speaker Bose audio optional. CX-70 is the two-row variant launched 2024 (same platform/engines, distinct front/rear styling). Currently Mazda's flagship in North America and an aspirational vehicle competing on inline-6 power, RWD-biased dynamics, and premium interior.
