DM platform — Mazda3 (4th gen BP) architecture raised for crossover packaging. Single generation across the run. Built at Mazda's Salamanca, Mexico plant for North American market (also Hofu Japan globally). 2.5L SkyActiv-G I4 NA (191 hp / 186 lb-ft) base across the range. 2.5L SkyActiv-G Turbocharged I4 (250 hp on premium fuel / 227 hp on regular, 320 lb-ft torque on premium) on CX-30 Turbo trims from 2021 model year onwards. 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic standard. i-Activ AWD standard across all US CX-30s (no FWD option in US — distinguishing from FWD-default base CX-3 and HR-V). Mazda's i-Activ AWD reads driving conditions and biases torque to wheels with most grip. Standard equipment: full leatherette/leather throughout, 8.8-inch infotainment with Mazda Connect (rotary knob-controlled, infotainment no touchscreen on most trims — controversial design choice), Apple CarPlay / Android Auto (wireless on Premium+), 7-inch driver display, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist. Optional Bose 12-speaker audio, head-up display, leather, sunroof, 18-inch wheels. Carbon Edition trim adds dark wheels, blacked-out trim, terracotta interior. EPA: 27 mpg combined NA, 25 mpg combined Turbo. 0-60 in 5.8 sec on Turbo — class-leading among non-luxury subcompact crossovers. The CX-30 has positioned as a premium-interior alternative to mass-market subcompact crossovers, with the optional 250 hp turbo offering legitimate hot-hatch performance in SUV form. 2024 mid-cycle refresh updated front fascia slightly, refreshed interior trim. Currently trims simplified to: 2.5 S, S Preferred, S Premium, Carbon Edition, 2.5 Turbo Premium, Turbo Premium Plus.
