The ninth-generation Continental (1995-2002) was a complete clean-sheet redesign launched December 1994 as a 1995 model — sharing the FN9 FWD architecture as its predecessor but with totally new bodywork following the 1994 Lincoln Contempra concept. Notably the first Lincoln to use the 32-valve DOHC InTech version of the 4.6L Modular V8 (shared with the Mark VIII), transversely mounted for FWD operation, producing 260 hp at launch — a dramatic step up from the SOHC V8s in the Town Car. Optional driver-selectable Memory Profile system stored individual driver preferences for seat position, steering wheel tilt, mirrors, suspension firmness, and steering effort — three-driver memory was unusual for the era. JBL audio, six-CD changer, onboard cellular phone, traction control, and chrome wheels were all available options. Production at Wixom Assembly. Sales were modest throughout the run as Lincoln's lineup grew confused — by 2001 the Continental, LS V8, and Town Car all competed in nearly the same price range. Lincoln announced 2002 would be the final year for the Continental nameplate (after 63 years and nine generations dating back to 1939). Final ninth-gen car built July 26, 2002 at Wixom. The Continental nameplate would return for 2017-2020 on the rear-drive Lincoln Continental tenth generation — but that's a separate lineage outside this batch's scope. Now affordable used and a quiet curio — the InTech 4.6L V8 is the cult attraction.
