Lexus SC
Lexus's personal luxury coupe / convertible. Two generations. SC 300/400 (1992-2000, JZA30, 2JZ inline-six available) then SC 430 retractable hardtop (2002-2010).
The SC was Lexus's personal luxury coupe across two distinct generations spanning 1992-2010 (within site post-1995 scope: 1995-2010). 1st gen Z30 (1992-2000, marketed as SC 300 and SC 400 in the US): two-door coupe sharing platform underpinnings with the JZA30 Toyota Soarer (and indirectly the Mk4 Toyota Supra). SC 300: 3.0L 2JZ-GE inline-six NA (220-225 hp), available with optional W58 five-speed manual transmission — the only Lexus other than the IS 300 ever offered with a manual in the US. SC 400: 4.0L 1UZ-FE V8 (250-290 hp), four-speed automatic only. RWD across both. Approximately 60,000 SC 300/400s sold US 1992-2000. 2nd gen Z40 (2002-2010, SC 430): retractable hardtop convertible only — Lexus's first convertible — with 4.3L 3UZ-FE V8 (288-300 hp), five-speed automatic (six-speed from 2006), RWD. Two-seat 2+2 with vestigial rear seats. Pebble Beach Edition for 2009 final years. Production at Toyota Tahara plant. Discontinued 2010 with no successor — Lexus didn't return to the personal luxury coupe / convertible segment until the LC 500 launched 2017. Now firmly cult collector territory; SC 300 manual transmission cars are obscure-collector picks (very rare, shared engine/transmission with Mk4 Supra), SC 400s are the V8 cult option, and SC 430s are appreciating among collectors of 2000s open-top luxury cars.
