The GX is Lexus's mid-size body-on-frame SUV — derived from the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (and sharing its platform with the contemporary Toyota 4Runner) for genuine off-road capability. Three US generations: 1st gen GX 470 (2003-2009) with 4.7L 2UZ-FE V8 (235-263 hp) and five-speed automatic; 2nd gen GX 460 (2010-2023) with 4.6L 1UR-FE V8 (301 hp) and six-speed automatic — the longest-running unchanged Lexus model with minimal updates across 13+ years; 3rd gen GX 550 (2024-present) on the all-new TNGA-F platform shared with the 2024+ Toyota 4Runner / Tacoma / Land Cruiser, with new 3.4L V35A-FTS twin-turbo V6 (349 hp / 479 lb-ft) and ten-speed automatic. Always 4WD with low-range transfer case. Three-row seating across generations. The GX has a cult following among Lexus buyers who actually want serious off-road capability without giving up luxury — properly capable for trail use, with body-on-frame construction, locking differentials available, and Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) for off-road articulation. Always built at Toyota Tahara plant. The 2024+ GX 550 has been sold-out since launch with multi-month dealer waitlists; clean low-mile 1st-2nd gen examples appreciating on the used market thanks to Toyota's truck-platform reliability reputation.
