5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 (1,100 hp) plus three electric motors. Total system output 1,500 hp / 1,475 lb-ft at the wheels. Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) transmission uses a single fixed ratio (2.7:1) with a hydraulic coupling — eliminating multi-gear transmission weight and complexity. Below 30 mph, V8 disengaged, two rear electric motors provide drive. Above 30 mph, V8 connects via hydraulic clutch with the electric motors filling in torque vectoring and boost. 9.0 kWh battery, ~22-mile EV-only range, plug-in hybrid. Carbon-fibre monocoque. The Regera reached 250 mph in around 17.5 seconds — testament to the Direct Drive system's efficiency once the V8 engages. 0-400-0 km/h record runs: 31.49s in 2019 (Markus Lundh), 28.81s in June 2023 at Örebro (Markus Lundh again). Production 80 cars total at Koenigsegg's Ängelholm factory. Original list price ~$1.9M.

Strengths

  • 1,500 hp from V8 + 3 electric motors
  • KDD Direct Drive single-ratio transmission is unique
  • 22-mile EV-only range (proper PHEV)
  • Production limited to 80 cars
  • Two consecutive 0-400-0 km/h world records

Weaknesses

  • KDD's long-term reliability less proven than conventional DCTs
  • Service network globally limited
  • Bespoke parts pricing
  • Battery service costs unknown long-term
  • 16 mpg combined hybrid figure (better than non-hybrid hypercars but still poor)

Notable tech

  • Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) single-ratio transmission
  • 5.0L twin-turbo V8 + 3 electric motors (1,500 hp)
  • 9.0 kWh battery, ~22-mile EV range
  • Carbon-fibre monocoque
  • 0-400-0 km/h world record holder (28.81s, 2023)

Common issues

  • KDD hydraulic coupling long-term unknowns
  • Battery degradation curve unknown long-term
  • Service requires Koenigsegg factory channels
  • Battery drain when stored

Used-market budget

$3,000,000

Standard cars $2.5-3.2M. Higher-spec / lower-mile examples $3.5-4.5M. Service history with Koenigsegg factory channels essential.
