Evolved FM S51 platform. Engines: VQ35HR 3.5L V6 (303 hp), then VQ37VHR 3.7L V6 (325 hp) from 2013; VK50VE 5.0L V8 (390 hp / 369 lb-ft) on FX50 from 2009 — uniquely developed for this vehicle alone, the engine block is shared with various LMP3 racing applications producing 420 hp. Seven-speed automatic. AWD standard on V8, optional on V6. FX50 Sport package adds Active Steering — rear-wheel steering up to one degree, plus variable-ratio front steering between 12.0:1 and 18.5:1. Renamed QX70 for 2014 model year (US-market V8 was sold only as 2014 QX70 5.0 — discontinued for V8 form afterwards in the US). 2012 mid-cycle facelift updated grille, bumper, instrument cluster. Discontinued 2017 with no successor — Infiniti's mid-size sport crossover slot was empty until the QX55 (2022) which is more conventional. The FX50 is the cult pick — racing-derivative V8 in an SUV body, RWD-biased AWD, 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. Production at Nissan Tochigi.

  • VK50VE bespoke V8 — service costs higher than V6
  • Heavy curb weight (~4,800 lb)
  • V8 fuel economy modest (16 mpg combined)
  • InTouch infotainment dated by mid-cycle
  • QX70 5.0 V8 sold only single-year in US (rare)
