Infiniti M / Q70 All Generations (M → Q70)
Three generations of Infiniti's full-size sedan. M56 / Q70 5.6L V8 (420 hp) is the cult pick.
Three distinct generations on Nissan FM platforms. First gen M35/M45 (2003-2010, Y50): VQ35DE 3.5L V6 (275 hp) or VK45DE 4.5L V8 (335 hp), five-speed automatic, RWD or Intelligent AWD. Won Car and Driver's eight-car luxury sedan comparison; Consumer Reports best luxury sedan. Second gen M37/M56 (2011-2013, Y51): VQ37VHR with VVEL (330 hp) or VK56VD direct-injection V8 (420 hp). Seven-speed automatic. Hybrid added (M35h, 2012-2013) using VQ35HR + electric for 360 hp combined. Third gen Q70 (2014-2019, Y51 evolution): same engine options, mid-cycle refresh styling, Q70L long-wheelbase variant with extra 5 inches in rear seats from 2015. The M56 and Q70 5.6L V8 cars are particularly noteworthy — direct-injection V8 with 420 hp, RWD-biased AWD, sport-tuned dampers, Brembo-style brakes — competing genuinely with BMW M5 of the era despite marketing positioning closer to E-Class. Discontinued 2019. Production at Nissan Tochigi. Now firmly affordable used — M56 and Q70 V8 cars are the modern collector picks; Q70L is the rarer body.
