Hyundai Sonata
Korean value play that finally became genuinely good around 2015.
Early Sonatas were cheap and ugly. The 2011 YF (6th gen) introduced the 'Fluidic Sculpture' design language and was the moment Hyundai stopped being an apology brand. The 2020 DN8 (8th gen) is genuinely a better-looking car than the equivalent Camry, with the N Line variant offering 290bhp from a 2.5T — a properly fast under-$35k sedan. Theta-II 2.4L engines (2011-2014) had documented engine failure issues; Hyundai eventually did a class-action settlement. Avoid those years.

N Line is the surprise. 290bhp through a wet DCT. Genuinely competitive.
