Hummer H3
Smallest Hummer. Colorado-based GMT355 platform. 5-cyl base, V8 Alpha (300 hp) on top trim. H3T pickup added 2009.
The H3 (2006-2010) was the smallest of the three Hummer civilian models — based on GM's GMT355 mid-size pickup platform shared with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Unlike the H1 (AM General-built, military-derived) and H2 (AM General contract-built on GMT820), the H3 was built directly by GM at Shreveport, Louisiana. Engine progression: 3.5L L52 inline-five (220 hp) at launch 2006, replaced 2007 by 3.7L LLR inline-five (242 hp / 242 lb-ft); 5.3L LH8 V8 (300 hp / 320 lb-ft) added 2008 as the H3 Alpha trim. Five-speed Aisin manual standard, four-speed Hydra-Matic 4L60-E automatic optional (with V8: 6L80 six-speed). Full-time AWD with Borg-Warner 4480 two-speed transfer case. Electronic locking rear differential optional, electronic locking front differential added later as well. The H3T four-door pickup truck variant was added 2009 and is one of the rarer body styles. Off-road capability was credible — 27-inch fording depth, 60% grade, 40% side slopes — the H3 wasn't H1-level extreme but was genuinely capable. Production at GM Shreveport. Total H3 + H3T production roughly 130,000 cars across 2006-2010. Discontinued 2010 with the Hummer brand wind-down. Now firmly affordable used; H3 Alpha V8 and H3T pickup variants are the cult picks.
