The Acadia is GMC's three-row mid-size SUV — slotted between Terrain (compact) and Yukon (full-size) in GMC's SUV lineup. Three generations across the run. 1st gen (2007-2016): launched 2007 as the original Acadia on GM Lambda platform shared with Buick Enclave / Chevrolet Traverse / Saturn Outlook. 3.6L LLT V6 (275-288 hp) — large body. 6-speed automatic. FWD or AWD. Denali trim added 2011 (luxury package — chrome grille, 20-inch wheels, leather, navigation). Built at GM Spring Hill Tennessee. 2nd gen (2017-2023): significantly smaller than 1st gen — repositioned downmarket as a tighter mid-size 3-row. GM C1XX platform shared with Cadillac XT6 / Chevrolet Traverse 2nd gen. 2.5L LCV I4 (193 hp / 188 lb-ft) base, 3.6L LGX V6 (310 hp / 271 lb-ft) optional, 2.0L LSY turbo I4 (230 hp / 258 lb-ft, optional 2018-2022). 6-speed (V6) or 9-speed automatic. FWD or AWD. AT4 trim added 2020 (off-road appearance package — black trim, all-terrain tires optional, dark wheels). 2020 mid-cycle facelift added 9-speed across range. Built at GM Spring Hill Tennessee. 3rd gen (2024-present, redesigned): completely new on GM E2 platform sharing with 3rd-gen Traverse — significantly larger again than 2nd gen, returning to a more substantial 3-row. Single engine: 2.5L LK0 turbo I4 (328 hp / 326 lb-ft) — only powertrain offered, replacing both V6 and 2.0L turbo. 8-speed automatic. FWD or AWD. 5,000 lb towing capacity standard. Trims: Elevation, AT4, Denali. AT4 trim with off-road suspension, all-terrain tires, twin-clutch AWD with active rear differential. Denali trim flagship with quilted leather, massage seats, panoramic moonroof. 15-inch infotainment standard (largest in GMC), 11-inch digital cluster, Google built-in. Built at GM Spring Hill Tennessee. Currently competing against Honda Pilot / Toyota Highlander / Mazda CX-90 / Kia Telluride.
