Ford-era Jaguar mid-size saloon — built at Castle Bromwich on the Ford DEW98 platform shared with the Lincoln LS. Retro styling cribbed from the original 1960s S-Type. UK got 2.5 / 3.0 V6 petrol, 2.7 V6 diesel, 4.2 V8 (and supercharged S-Type R 400 bhp). 2004 facelift smoothed the bonnet line and improved the cabin. Discontinued 2008, replaced by the XF — which fixed every problem the S-Type had. Cheap to buy now; not particularly cheap to run. The R is the cult halo.
